AI MARKETING TOOLSPagePilot vs Smart Copy: whatchanged after the shutdown

Smart Copy has shut down. See what that changes in the PagePilot comparison, how Unbounce’s builder differs, and what to check for a Shopify product page.

Find an AI market worth building in before anyone big claims it.

Every Monday we run every tracked search through four checks: buyers are looking for a tool, demand is rising, advertisers pay real money for every click, and a focused new site can still reach the first page. The few that pass are that week's openings.

The standalone Smart Copy app is no longer an option for a new project. Unbounce discontinued it on January 28, 2026, so an old PagePilot vs Smart Copy comparison should not guide a purchase today.

PagePilot still markets a Shopify page-building workflow. If that is what you need, evaluate it against other ways to build a product page, not against a copywriting app you can no longer use.

The Smart Copy app closed; Unbounce's builder did not

Unbounce's shutdown notice distinguishes the discontinued standalone app from the AI text features inside its landing-page builder. Builder customers can still rewrite, expand or summarize page text and generate variations. Unbounce's current Smart Copy page now uses the name for those built-in features.

That does not make the builder the same product as the old standalone app. If you only need writing help, taking on a page-building subscription deserves a separate decision.

The notice also set March 28, 2026 as the deadline for requesting saved Smart Copy content. That deadline has passed. Old instructions to request an export within the recovery window are no longer current.

Consider PagePilot when the page itself is the work

PagePilot's current website describes a workflow that starts with a product link, lets you select and edit a template, and publishes the resulting page to Shopify. Its editor includes text and image changes as part of that workflow.

For a merchant preparing several product pages, the useful question is how much editing remains before each page is ready. Check the product details, shipping promises, images and mobile layout against what your store can actually deliver. A generated page needs that review even when the first draft looks polished.

If your existing page already works and you only want a stronger headline or description, assess writing tools separately. You may not need another page builder.

Judge the result, not the old comparison

Use one real product to evaluate the workflow before moving more of your catalog. Check whether you can make the changes your store needs, then review the published page on a phone. Compare the subscription and editing effort with your current process.

Faster page creation and better sales are different outcomes. A vendor's demonstration or customer testimonial cannot tell you how your own traffic will convert. Treat the page-building workflow as something to test, not as a promised revenue increase.

This page preserves the answer to an older product comparison. It is based on the linked product information, not a hands-on performance test of PagePilot.
