Compound Monthly Growth Rate Calculator
Calculate CMGR, total percentage growth and absolute change from your starting and ending values.
Smoothed growth checkpoints
| Elapsed months | Smoothed value |
|---|---|
| 0 | 1,000 |
| 3 | 1,189.21 |
| 6 | 1,414.21 |
| 9 | 1,681.79 |
| 12 | 2,000 |
How the calculation works
CMGR = (ending value ÷ starting value)^(1 ÷ elapsed months) − 1. Multiply by 100 to express it as a percentage.
Worked example
Going from 1,000 to 2,000 over 12 months is 100% total growth and about 5.95% compounded monthly growth. January to December contains 11 monthly intervals; January to the next January contains 12.
Assumptions and limitations
CMGR describes a smoothed rate between two observations. It does not show monthly volatility or forecast future growth. A zero starting value has no defined percentage growth. Use the same units and measurement method at both endpoints.
